A Proven Talent Seeking a New Home

Two-time Pro Bowler and former All-Pro corner Jaire Alexander has officially hit the market after being released by the Packers. Despite battling injuries the past two years, appearing in just 7 games per season, Alexander still performs at an elite level when healthy.

In his 7 years with Green Bay, he racked up 287 tackles, 12 picks, and 70 pass breakups in 78 games. Even last year, in limited action, he posted 15 solo tackles, 2 interceptions, and 7 passes defended with a 75.2 grade from PFF, ranking in the top 25 percent of all corners.

Packers President Mark Murphy called it a business decision, citing injury history and cap savings. The move cleared about $17 million off the books. GM Brian Gutekunst added, “He will be missed.” Teammates and coaches all spoke highly of his leadership and presence, even while injured.

At just 28 years old, there’s already strong interest across the league. Here are three teams that make the most sense:

Buffalo Bills
Buffalo already tried to get Alexander earlier this offseason but talks fell apart over contract structure. Now that he’s a free agent, the Bills could revisit the move. They have young talent like Christian Benford and rookies like Maxwell Hairston but they lack proven depth. A one-year, incentive-heavy deal similar to what the Rams gave Tre’Davious White could be the play here.

Miami Dolphins
Miami had one of the worst pass defenses in the league last year, finishing 30th in yards allowed, and has corner Byron Jones headed to free agency. Adding a proven guy like Alexander gives them instant help and leadership in the secondary. He’s already been mentioned as a top potential fit.

Philadelphia Eagles
This one just makes sense. Philly has young talent in Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean but adding a vet like Alexander would bring a safety net and key experience to the room. Defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz loves aggressive, high-IQ corners and Alexander fits the mold. It’s a low-risk move that could pay off big.

Bottom Line:
Alexander may come with some injury baggage but his upside is clear. He’s still one of the best pure cover corners in football when healthy. A short-term deal gives contenders like Buffalo, Miami, and Philly a high-reward option without long-term risk. If he stays on the field, he could end up being one of the top free-agent pickups of the offseason.
