Odell Beckham Jr was an electric playmaker for the New York Giants from 2014-2018. Beckham wasted no time establishing himself as a lethal weapon, as he had 91 catches for 1,305 yards and 12 touchdowns in 12 games as a rookie. That campaigned earned him Offensive Rookie of the Year honors and the legend of ‘OBJ’ in New York was born.
Beckham would rattle off four 1,000+ yard receiving seasons in five years with the Giants, the outlier being an injury-shortened season in 2017. He became a global icon in New York, as kids everywhere dyed their hair blonde and attempted one-handed catches. The sports world stopped in March of 2019, when the Giants shipped Beckham to the Cleveland Browns for a package that included Jabrill Peppers, a 2019 first round pick (Dexter Lawrence) and third round pick (Oshane Ximines).
The Giants failed to replicate Beckham’s production at the receiver position until last year when Malik Nabers exploded onto the scene as their undisputed No.1 option. Nabers, who played at LSU and idolized Beckham growing up, was a nostalgic reminder for Giants fans that loved #13 for those few seasons.
Could the two possibly team up in 2025? Following a failed stint in Miami last season, Beckham has insisted that he has plenty left in the tank and is ready to give his next team his all. Beckham made a heartfelt Instagram post with his son, Zydn, in the parking lot of MetLife Stadium reflecting on the times he had playing for the Giants.
In the comment section, Nabers said, “We still got work to do,” with the smirk emoji added on. Brian Burns also commented and Abdul Carter added on his story, “It’s time,” in regard to a post about Beckham coming back to the Giants.
The 32-year-old wideout obviously isn’t the game-breaking player he once was during his prime days with the Giants. However, the team floated around the idea of adding a veteran to the room, as they brought in Gabe Davis for a visit just a few weeks ago. If the Giants were to bring Beckham back, it would be a full circle moment that would give closure to many fans and even Beckham, who said on numerous occasions that he never wanted to leave.
If Beckham wants a ‘last dance’ type of opportunity, going back to where it all started would be a storybook ending.
