Jayden Daniels Sends Cease and Desist to LSU

Jayden Daniels and LSU are now at odds over how the school is handling the legacy of its former Heisman winning quarterback.

Daniels’ attorney sent LSU a cease and desist demanding the school stop using his name, image and likeness after the Tigers allowed sophomore cornerback DJ Pickett to wear No. 5, according to ESPN.

Daniels wore No. 5 during his two seasons at LSU, including his 2023 campaign when he won the Heisman after recording 4,946 total yards and 50 touchdowns.

“The Daniels family is deeply disappointed and feels profoundly disrespected by LSU’s decision to give Jayden’s number to another player,” a spokesperson told ESPN.

According to the statement, Daniels had previously made it clear that he did not want his number given to another player and believed LSU would respect his wishes.

His family also pointed to how LSU has handled Joe Burrow’s former number and how no LSU player has worn No. 9 since Burrow won the Heisman Trophy and led the Tigers to a Natty in 2019.

Former LSU HC Brian Kelly told ESPN that Pickett had been promised No. 5 during his recruitment, but Kelly would not make the switch without Daniels signing off on it.

“We didn’t want to issue No. 9, so you can’t treat one differently from the other,” Kelly said.

New LSU HC Lane Kiffin disagrees with Kelly and Daniels, saying Pickett was promised No. 5 when he was recruited to LSU and believes the school should honor that commitment regardless.

“When a kid is promised something to come to a school, he should wear it,” Kiffin said.

Pickett wore No. 3 during his freshman season in 2025 before making the switch to No. 5 this offseason.

Daniels’ attorney Adam Kenner informed LSU that its agreement to use Daniels’ NIL extended only 180 days beyond his final college game and demanded that the university stop using it. Talk about AWKWARD.

LSU had not responded to the cease and desist as of ESPN’s report.
