Giants Release WR JuJu Smith-Schuster

The Giants are planning to release veteran WR JuJu Smith-Schuster after signing RB Najee Harris, according to Adam Schefter.

Smith-Schuster joined New York on a non-guaranteed contract in June, but entered training camp facing a difficult path to the final 53-man roster in one of the Giants most crowded position groups.

The veteran was listed as WR12 on New York’s initial depth chart:

His chances of climbing the depth chart were made even more difficult by a knee injury suffered early in training camp.

Smith-Schuster missed practice time because of the injury and was ruled out of the Giants preseason opener against the Vikings. With no clear return timeline and roster cuts approaching, he had limited opportunities to make up ground in the competition.

The Giants signed Smith-Schuster alongside fellow veteran receivers Odell Beckham Jr. and Braxton Berrios earlier this offseason, with all three competing for spots in a deep receiver room.

Smith-Schuster spent the previous two seasons with the Chiefs and recorded 33 receptions for 345 yards last season. He now returns to the free-agent market before turning 30 in November.

The move comes as New York adds another veteran to its offense, signing Harris following his workout with the team on Monday.

Harris is working his way back from the torn Achilles that ended his 2025 season after just 3 games. He joins a Giants backfield that already features Cam Skattebo and Tyrone Tracy Jr.

For Smith-Schuster, his short stint with New York ends before he ever gets an opportunity to appear in a regular-season game.
