Holland comes up clutch, Giants defeat Titans

The New York Giants’ impressive start to 2026 turned very quickly last week in Los Angeles, as Jaxson Dart suffered a likely season-ending knee injury early against the Rams, which gave them very little chance, falling to a hefty defeat.

They had a good chance to return to the winner’s list this afternoon, however, hosting the Tennessee Titans, who entered on the back of an inspired performance against the Philadelphia Eagles in Nashville, albeit one that ended in a heartbreaking defeat.

Despite being limited offensively, New York’s special teams got off to an ideal start, forcing a fumble by Chimere Dike on the opening kickoff, although even that was not enough to give Dart’s replacement, Jameis Winston, the field position he needed to put points on the board, as the offense was forced to punt, despite beginning at Tennessee’s 27-yard line.

It was the Giants who eventually hit the scoreboard first, but only with a field goal, as it had become offense that MetLife Stadium wasn’t going to see a shootout this week.

New York continued to have no choice but to rely heavily on the run game, which they did via Cam Skattebo and Najee Harris, who got them in range to double their advantage shortly before halftime.

As time expired on the first half, a 3rd Giants field goal was the difference between the teams. New York’s 9-0 lead was hardly eye-catching, but they did what they needed to in the absence of their starting quarterback.

Skattebo continued to be a workhorse in the backfield, leading the team into the red zone once again. But, you guessed it, the Giants were held to yet another field goal, though the contributions of rookie kicker Dominic Zvada became increasingly more likely to be all that they would require to win the game.

The Titans’ offense began to finally show signs of life, but came away from yet another drive with nothing to show for it, as the scoreboard left them no choice but to go for it on 4th down, which saw Cam Ward forced to throw it away under heavy pressure.

They worked their way back to the red zone on their next opportunity, and this time were able to capitalise. Ex-Giant Wan’Dale Robinson made an impressive catch for his first score as a Titan, and all of a sudden gave his team every chance to win the game.

Given the chance to lead a game-winning drive in the Big Apple, Ward worked his way into the red zone and looked destined to snatch a victory. But it all changed in one play. Jevon Holland, who has been the league’s best defensive back so far this season, picked off the sophomore quarterback in the game-defining play, as the Giants gritted out a tough 12-7 win at home.

A game that was hard to watch came to a thrilling climax as New York prevailed. It’s hard to see them truly challenging in the NFC East without Dart, but their effort cannot be faulted and they deserve to celebrate a hard-fought win.
