Giants Star Brian Burns Believed to Have Suffered Torn ACL

The Giants appear to have suffered another major injury, as star pass rusher Brian Burns is believed to have torn his ACL during Sunday’s 12-7 win over the Titans, according to Adam Schefter.

Burns suffered the knee injury during the 4th quarter and immediately went down in significant pain. He needed help getting off the field and went straight to the locker room with Giants trainers.

The injury came despite some initial optimism from Giants HC John Harbaugh following the game. “There is some hope there, but we won’t know until we see the MRI,” Harbaugh said.

This is the same situation the Giants faced with QB Jaxson Dart just one week earlier. The team initially believed Dart had avoided a major injury, but further testing revealed damage to his meniscus and MCL that required surgery and will keep him out for the season.

Burns entered Sunday dealing with a low ankle sprain suffered during the Giants Week 2 loss to the Rams. He didn’t pratice all week, but Burns was ultimately able to play in a limited role.

Now, the Giants are likely to be without one of the most important pieces of their defense for the remainder of the 2026 season.

Burns was coming off one of the best seasons of his career after recording 16.5 sacks in 2025, which ranked 2nd in the NFL behind Myles Garrett. He had recorded at least 7.5 sacks in each of his first 7 NFL seasons and had not missed a game since 2020.

The 28-year-old has recorded 71 sacks over his 8-year NFL career and has established himself as one of the Giants defensive leaders since being acquired from the Carolina Panthers in 2024.

The injury also continues a brutal 2-week stretch for New York. QB Jaxson Dart underwent knee surgery Friday after suffering injuries to his meniscus and MCL in Week 2 and will miss the rest of the season.

Despite improving to 2-1 with Sunday’s win, the Giants now have to navigate forward without two of their biggest players on opposite sides of the ball.
