A Deep Dive into the “Best WR Room” Mike Evans Has Been Apart of With the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are gearing up for an important 2025 season. Their electric offense will be the driving force as they strive for their fifth-straight NFC South division title. The wide receiver room boasts a solid mix of veterans and younger players looking to make an impact early. Superstar wideout Mike Evans even went as far to say that the Bucs’ current receiver room might be the best he’s ever been apart of.

I know I say it a lot but this might be the best receiving room I’ve been a part of. I say it every year but we always get great players coming in so that’s been very fortunate for me in my career to be around a lot of great young players and they’ve added to the room tremendously.

With that being said, here’s a quick look at each receiver currently on Tampa Bay’s roster heading into training camp.

Mike Evans

2024 stats: 74 receptions, 1,004 yards, 11 touchdowns (14 games)

The savvy veteran has been nothing short of consistent throughout his career. The Bucs’ former first round pick in 2014 has eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards in each season, displaying pure dominance. The future Hall of Famer still has plenty left to give.

Chris Godwin

2024 stats: 50 receptions, 576 yards, five touchdowns (7 games)

Godwin was on a tear to start the 2024 season, until an ankle injury ended his season after just seven weeks. Many believed Godwin would find a different home for 2025 and beyond, but the veteran re-upped on a three year, $66 million deal to stay in Tampa Bay this offseason. Keeping Godwin and Evans together was something that should make Bucs fans very happy.

Emeka Egbuka

2024 stats at Ohio State: 81 receptions, 1,011 yards, 10 touchdowns (16 games)

The Bucs decided to add another lethal weapon to their arsenal in the draft, selecting Egbuka with the No.19 overall pick. Egbuka will primarily work out of the slot, but is a dynamic playmaker that will only make this Tampa Bay passing offense even better.

Jalen McMillan

2024 stats: 37 receptions, 461 yards, eight touchdowns (13 games)

McMillan was Tampa Bay’s third round pick out of Washington last year and he didn’t disappoint. Eight touchdowns as a rookie is certainly noteworthy. It’s unclear how big or small McMillan’s role will be with Egbuka added into the mix, but the Bucs having McMillan as a fourth option is incredible value.

Sterling Shepard

2024 stats: 32 receptions, 334 yards, one touchdown (14 games)

The veteran Shepard came over last offseason after an eight year tenure with the New York Giants. Injuries seriously derailed the course of Shepard’s career, but he was able to land with Tampa Bay and reunite with his former college quarterback in Baker Mayfield. Shepard provided valuable snaps for the Bucs in 2024 and another veteran presence in the room.

Trey Palmer

2024 stats: 12 receptions, 172 yards, one touchdown (17 games)

Palmer was Tampa Bay’s sixth-round pick in 2023, totaling almost 400 yards and three touchdowns as a rookie. His role diminished in 2024 with the arrival of McMillan and he may be fighting for scarce playing time in 2025.

Tez Johnson

2024 stats at Oregon: 83 receptions, 898 yards, 10 touchdowns (12 games)

An interesting flier the Bucs decided to take in this year’s draft, Johnson is certainly a unique name thrown into Tampa Bay’s receiving corps. He is slightly undersized at 5’10, 165 pounds but it’ll be interesting to see if Johnson’s game can translate well to the NFL over the course of training camp.

Ryan Miller

2024 stats: 12 receptions, 128 yards, one touchdown (11 games)

Miller was a 2023 UDFA out of Furman, making the most of his opportunities in an extremely limited role on offense. His path to a roster spot this year will come from making an impact on special teams once again.

Rakim Jarrett

2024 stats: 9 receptions, 124 yards (10 games)

Another UDFA from 2023, Jarrett will look to stick around mainly due to his special teams presence.

Kameron Johnson

2024 stats: two rushes, 11 yards (5 games)

Johnson still has yet to log an NFL reception. It’s tough to see how he manages to steal a roster spot in 2025.

Dennis Houston

2024 stats: N/A

Houston has bounced around with a few teams since coming in undrafted in 2022. He was able to log two catches for 16 yards as a rookie with the Dallas Cowboys.

Garrett Greene

2024 stats at West Virginia: four receptions, 32 yards

Greene is an interesting UDFA this year, as he will convert from a running back to a wide receiver. Greene rushed for 751 yards and six touchdowns for the Mountaineers last season.

Evans may be right, as this is a solid group of receivers on paper.
