Laremy Tunsil Suffers Torn Triceps
The Commanders left tackle will miss significant time with surgery on the table.
The Washington Commanders were dealt a major injury blow on Saturday after LT Laremy Tunsil suffered a torn triceps during 1-on-1 pass-rush drills at practice, according to Mike Garafolo.
Tunsil is expected to miss a significant portion of the regular season, with the injury likely requiring surgery.
The 5x Pro Bowler initially left practice after being injured during a rep against Odafe Oweh. Tunsil was evaluated by trainers before leaving the field and undergoing additional testing.
Initial reports from Garafolo indicated the injury involved Tunsil’s shoulder/neck and that there wasn’t significant concern about its severity. Unfortunately, testing later revealed the torn triceps.
Earlier this offseason, the Commanders signed him to a 2-year, $60M extension, which included a $32.5M signing bonus, the largest ever for an offensive lineman.
Andrew Wylie is now the likely replacement at LT, with Josh Conerly remaining at RT, according to Adam Schefter. Wylie has played just five snaps at LT since entering the league in 2017.
The difference in recent pass protection between Tunsil and Wylie is significant:
- 2024: Tunsil No. 4 of 87, Wylie No. 61 of 87
- 2023: Tunsil No. 2 of 89, Wylie No. 41 of 89
- 2022: Tunsil No. 1 of 87, Wylie No. 66 of 87
Tunsil finished No. 3 of 95 in 2025, while Wylie played guard last season.
The Commanders will now have to prepare to open the regular season without their star starting left tackle for an extended period, as he could miss nearly, if not all the regular season.
