Commanders QB Jayden Daniels Avoids IR, Surgery Not Currently on The Table

The Commanders received encouraging news on QB Jayden Daniels after he spent the week meeting with specialists about his dislocated left elbow.

Washington GM Adam Peters announced Friday that the team does not currently plan to place Daniels on injured reserve, while surgery is also not being considered at this time.

“As of right now, surgery is not on the table, and we haven’t discussed IR,” Peters said on 106.7 The Fan. “So it’s just a matter of how we’re going to get him back on the field. That’s still to be determined.”

Daniels met with multiple specialists after suffering the injury during Washington’s Week 2 loss to the Cowboys. He underwent additional imaging before the Commanders ultimately decided not to place him on IR.

While there is still no exact timetable for his return, keeping Daniels off IR is significant. An IR designation would require him to miss at least 4 games, meaning Washington believes he could return sooner.

Daniels has already been ruled out for Sunday’s matchup against the Seahawks, with veteran Marcus Mariota starting in his place.

The injury occurred late in the first half against Dallas when Daniels tried to brace himself with his left arm as he fell to the ground. His elbow bent awkwardly, and he was later diagnosed with a dislocation.

For now, however, the outlook looks much more encouraging than it did at first. Daniels will continue working toward a return while the Commanders take his recovery week by week.
