Jaguars and Trevor Lawrence agree to five-year, $275M deal

The Jacksonville Jaguars and quarterback Trevor Lawrence have agreed on a monumental five-year, $275 million contract extension, according to sources shared with Preme Sports’ Nick Preme on Thursday.

The deal features $200 million in guaranteed money, including $142 million guaranteed at signing. Lawrence also received a $37.5 million signing bonus. With an average annual salary of $55 million, Lawrence ties with the Cincinnati Bengals’ Joe Burrow for the highest mark in the NFL.

Lawrence is now one of six quarterbacks earning over $50 million annually. The others include the Detroit Lions’ Jared Goff ($53 million), Los Angeles Chargers’ Justin Herbert ($52.5 million), Baltimore Ravens’ Lamar Jackson ($52 million), and Philadelphia Eagles’ Jalen Hurts ($51 million). Kansas City Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes, with an annual salary of $46.339 million, follows closely behind.

With this new contract, Lawrence joins the ranks of quarterbacks with over $100 million fully guaranteed, alongside Deshaun Watson ($230 million), Joe Burrow ($146.5 million), Lamar Jackson ($135 million), Justin Herbert ($133.7 million), Jared Goff ($113.6 million), Jalen Hurts ($110 million), Kyler Murray ($103.3 million), and Josh Allen ($100 million).

Lawrence is already fourth in Jaguars’ history for passing yards (11,770) and passing touchdowns (58), with a record of 21-31 as a starter (including playoffs). He led the Jaguars to the AFC South title in 2022 and orchestrated a remarkable comeback against the Chargers in the wild-card playoff game before losing to the Chiefs in the divisional round.

In 2023, Lawrence guided the Jaguars to an 8-3 start, but injuries (concussion, ankle, and shoulder) hindered his performance towards the end of the season, resulting in a 1-5 finish and missing the playoffs.

Drafted first overall in 2021, Lawrence had a challenging rookie season under head coach Urban Meyer, leading the league with 17 interceptions. However, he significantly improved under head coach Doug Pederson in 2022, throwing for 4,113 yards, 25 touchdowns, and only eight interceptions, while leading the Jaguars to a 6-1 finish and an AFC South title.
