Mizzou has claimed the 1960 National Championship after the U.S. Senate passed a resolution recognizing Missouri’s undefeated season.
Missouri’s only loss came against rival Kansas, 23-7, in the final game of the regular season. That loss was later reversed after Kansas used an ineligible player, giving Mizzou an official 11-0 record and the Big Eight championship.
Despite Missouri’s undefeated official record, Minnesota was named the national champion by the AP and UPI. Those final polls were released before bowl games, and Minnesota went on to lose to Washington in the Rose Bowl.
What’s crazier is that Mississippi was named champion by the Football Writers Association of America, Washington was recognized by the Helms Athletic Foundation, and the Litkenhous Rating system picked Iowa.
Tiger fans can now officially show off a national championship title.
