Seahawks Sign Devon Witherspoon to Record-Breaking $132M Extension

Seattle is signing Witherspoon to a 4-year, $132M extension that includes $101M guaranteed, making him the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history.

The deal averages $33M per year and ends months of contract negotiations between the two.

Witherspoon had been seeking a new deal throughout the offseason but never held out. The 25-year-old continued to fully participate in training camp while his representatives and Seattle worked toward an extension.

The Seahawks selected Witherspoon with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2023 Draft out of Illinois, quickly earning Pro Bowl honors in each of his first three NFL seasons.

Seattle has now handed out two massive extensions to members of its 2023 draft class this offseason.

The Seahawks already made Jaxon Smith-Njigba the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL earlier this offseason. Now, Witherspoon gets his own record-breaking deal to remain in Seattle long term.

With Witherspoon’s extension finalized, the deal will have major implications for Patriots star Christian Gonzalez.

Gonzalez, who was selected 17th overall in the same 2023 draft, is also seeking a new contract and shares the same agent, Reggie Johnson, as Witherspoon.

The Patriots and Gonzalez reportedly have not made much progress toward a new deal so far.

With Witherspoon now setting the market at $33M per year and $101M guaranteed, Gonzalez and his representation have a new benchmark as negotiations with New England continue.
