The Jacksonville Jaguars are placing rookie wide receiver and cornerback Travis Hunter on injured reserve after suffering a non-contact knee injury following Wednesday’s practice. The move will sideline Hunter for at least four games as the team continues to evaluate when/if Hunter can return this season.
Hunter was listed as a limited participant on Thursday, despite not appearing on the initial injury report earlier in the week. The injury reportedly occurred during sometime after Wednesday’s session and was described as non-contact, a tough setback.
This loss hurts Jacksonville more on the offensive side of the ball, where Hunter had recently emerged as a reliable target. The Jaguars have more depth at corner, but Hunter’s development as a receiver was beginning to shine through.
Before the injury, Hunter turned in a breakout performance in his last game against the Rams. He played a career-high 67 snaps on offense, hauling in eight catches on 14 targets for 101 yards and his first career touchdown. It was a career-best outing of his young career.
For the season, Hunter has posted:
- 28 receptions (T-47th in NFL)
- 298 receiving yards (61st)
- 1 touchdown (T-97th)
- 10.6 yards per catch
The Jaguars face the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, but will be without one of their most promising rookies for the foreseeable future.
