49ers Sign Kyle Shanahan to Contract Extension

The 49ers have locked up head coach Kyle Shanahan for years to come.

The 49ers signed Shanahan to a long-term contract extension during the offseason, according to Tom Pelissero.

The full details and length of his new deal have not yet been reported, but the extension ensures Shanahan will remain in the Bay Area for the foreseeable future.

Shanahan has been San Francisco head coach since February 6, 2017, and is now in his 10th season leading the franchise.

During his tenure, Shanahan has recorded a 93-72 overall record, including a 10-5 record in the postseason.

San Francisco has won three NFC West titles and reached four NFC Championship Games under Shanahan. The 49ers also reached Super Bowl LIV and Super Bowl LVIII, but fell short of bringing another Lombardi Trophy back to San Francisco.

Shanahan has helped turn the 49ers into one of the NFC’s most consistent contenders after taking over a team that went 2-14 the season before his arrival.
