Bears S Coby Bryant Undergoes Knee Surgery

The Chicago Bears received a significant injury update on safety Coby Bryant, with head coach Ben Johnson announcing that Bryant underwent knee surgery and is expected to miss 4-6 months.

The new timeline is a major change from the initial expectation following Bryant’s injury.

Bryant suffered the injury during a 1-on-1 rep at training camp, immediately grabbing his left knee before being helped onto a cart and taken off the practice field.

Initial testing reportedly revealed a hyperextended knee, bone bruise and small fracture. At the time, Bryant was expected to avoid surgery and miss approximately 8-10 weeks, potentially putting him on track to return around Weeks 4-6 of the regular season.

That is no longer the case.

Johnson said the Bears are hopeful the safety could return near the end of the season, hopefully for a playoff run.

The 27-year-old signed a 3-year, $40M contract with the Bears this offseason, including $25.75M guaranteed.

Brutal news for Chicago fans.
