NFL to Place Terrion Arnold on Commissioner’s Exempt List

The NFL plans to place CB Terrion Arnold on the commissioner’s exempt list once he officially signs with the Seahawks, according to Mike Garafolo.

The update provides some clarity on a situation we have been following since Seattle announced last week that it had agreed to terms with Arnold.

Yesterday, we reported that Arnold still had not officially signed with the Seahawks despite the agreement. Head coach Mike Macdonald said Monday there was “no update” on Arnold’s arrival, with Seattle still waiting for an update surrounding his status with the league.

Now we know that once Arnold officially signs, the NFL plans to place him on the list while his legal case plays out. Players on the commissioner’s exempt list are still paid but are not permitted to practice or play with their team.

That means even after Seattle finalizes the deal, Arnold will not immediately join the Seahawks on the field.

Arnold remains out on $1M bond while facing 8 felony charges, with his next court date scheduled for October 5th.

The Seahawks are still working through the timing of the signing and Arnold’s placement on the exempt list, but the expectation remains that he will eventually become a member of the team.

As we noted yesterday, this continues to look less like a move designed to provide Seattle with immediate help and more like an opportunity to potentially add Arnold to the defense later in the season, depending on how his legal situation plays out.

For now, the agreement remains in place, but Seattle will have to wait before Arnold can actually take the field.
