Lane Kiffin Reportedly Recruited NFL Players

Lane Kiffin and LSU reportedly played a major role in the recent push for former NFL players to return to college football.

According to CBS Sports, Kiffin and LSU reached out to multiple players on NFL rosters, or their agents, to have them challenge NCAA eligibility rules in court and potentially return to college.

The Tigers have also reportedly held conversations with other players who remain in NFL camps ahead of final roster cuts.

LSU has already landed three players who spent time in the NFL this offseason: Zxavian Harris, Dae’Quan Wright and Junior Tuihalamaka.

Wright became one of the biggest stories after leaving the Browns. Cleveland HC Todd Monken revealed that Kiffin had reached out to him during training camp before Monken knew Wright was considering a return to college.

“I wondered why Lane Kiffin reached out a week ago. Now I know,” Monken said. “I didn’t call him back. I guess I should have.”

The SEC and Big Ten have since added rules preventing their schools from using players who signed professional contracts, appeared on professional rosters or declared for a professional draft without properly withdrawing.

The Big Ten went even further by establishing potential penalties for violations, including a head coach suspension for 50% of the team’s contests and a fine for the school.

LSU may not have been the first program to explore additional eligibility for players from the 2022 recruiting class, but CBS Sports reports the Tigers helped push the movement into a lawsuit and what it’s become as of today.
