Mark Sanchez Agrees to Plead Guilty in Stabbing Case

Former NFL QB Mark Sanchez has agreed to plead guilty in connection with the 2025 stabbing incident in downtown Indianapolis.

A joint motion was filed Thursday by Sanchez’s legal team and the state asking the judge to cancel his upcoming Sept. 8 jury trial and instead schedule a guilty plea and sentencing hearing.

“The parties have reached a resolution that will obviate the need for the jury trial,” both sides wrote in the filing.

It’s unknown which charge or charges Sanchez will plead guilty to, and a judge still needs to accept the plea.

Sanchez was charged with battery resulting in serious bodily injury, battery resulting in bodily injury, unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication following the October 2025 incident.

The most serious charge Sanchez faces is battery resulting in serious bodily injury, a felony in Indiana.

The incident occurred while Sanchez was in Indianapolis to call the Colts vs. Raiders game for FOX Sports.

According to court documents, Sanchez approached 69-year-old truck driver Perry Tole while Tole was working near two downtown Indianapolis hotels. Investigators allege an argument eventually became physical, with surveillance video showing Sanchez grabbing and throwing Tole toward a wall.

Tole told investigators that he used pepper spray after believing he was in danger. When Sanchez continued toward him, Tole pulled out a knife and stabbed Sanchez multiple times, according to court documents.

Sanchez suffered multiple stab wounds to his upper torso, while Tole also suffered injuries during the altercation.

Investigators said Tole’s account matched surveillance footage reviewed by detectives.

Sanchez was later arrested for his alleged role in the incident after receiving medical treatment.

Both sides have requested that the guilty plea and sentencing hearing take place on Nov. 9 or Nov. 16. Sanchez could face jail time or probation, depending on which charge he ultimately pleads guilty to and the terms of the agreement.

There has also been movement surrounding the separate civil case stemming from the incident. Tole’s attorney said discussions between the two sides have been productive and are moving toward a potential settlement.
