South Carolina Suspends EDGE Dylan Stewart Indefinitely

South Carolina EDGE Dylan Stewart has been suspended indefinitely following his actions during Saturday’s loss to Alabama, head coach Shane Beamer announced Sunday.

Stewart will not play against Kentucky next week, and Beamer said a decision regarding his future with the program could come within the next couple of days.

“There’s a standard of how we do things in our program, and that was not it last night,” Beamer said. “It’s beyond the punch. The punch is unacceptable. He’s not the first person to ever throw a punch in the football game, and he won’t be the last. But it’s some of the other stuff. That isn’t how we do things in this program.”

The star pass rusher was seen refusing to leave the field when South Carolina tried to substitute Julian Walker in, which led to a heated exchange with coaches on the sideline.

Later in the game, Stewart threw a punch at an Alabama player. He was penalized for the incident but was not ejected.

The suspension comes at a significant time for Stewart, who entered the season as a potential top-5 pick in the 2027 NFL Draft and possibly the best defensive player in the draft.

The former highly rated recruit recorded 23 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks as a freshman in 2024. He followed that with 33 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks and 3 forced fumbles in 2025.
