Buccaneers, Baker Mayfield Agree to 3-Year Extension

The Buccaneers have agreed to a 3-year, $165M contract extension with QB Baker Mayfield, averaging $55M per year, according to Adam Schefter.

Mayfield was entering the final year of his previous 3-year, $100M contract and was set to become a free agent following the 2026 season.

Mayfield previously said his deadline for contract talks was training camp, and after the two sides failed to reach an agreement, it seemed he would play out the final year of his deal and enter free agency.

That is no longer the case, as Tampa Bay has now locked up a quarterback who has been one of the NFL’s most productive since arriving in 2023.

Mike Garafolo also reported that both sides weren’t far from extension talks when Baker’s self-imposed training camp deadline hit, with reports that the Buccaneers reached back out over the weekend and ironed out a deal.

Over his 3 seasons with the Buccaneers, Mayfield ranks 2nd in passing touchdowns with 95 and 3rd in passing yards with 12,237. However, after a hot 2025 season, Tampa Bay still missed the postseason. With a new contract in hand, Mayfield will look to make sure that doesn’t happen this season.

The new extension also takes one of the biggest potential quarterbacks off the 2027 free-agent market before the 2026 season even begins.
