Cardinals rookie QB Carson Beck will not play in Thursday night’s preseason matchup against the Raiders due to a rib injury suffered during last week’s Hall of Fame Game.
Arizona had already announced that veteran Jacoby Brissett would start against Las Vegas, and now we know the reason.
According to Ian Rapoport, Beck practiced through soreness throughout the week, but the Cardinals ultimately decided to hold him out as a precaution, although the rib injury is not considered serious.
Beck impressed in his first NFL preseason action, completing 15 of 19 passes for 188 yards and one TD while averaging 9.9 yards per attempt.
With Beck unavailable, Brissett will get the start while Gardner Minshew enters as Arizona’s QB2.
Ironically, Beck is not the only rookie quarterback coming out of the Hall of Fame Game with an injury. Panthers QB Haynes King is considered week-to-week after suffering a hamstring injury following his own impressive preseason debut, and he too will not play in Week 2.
