Jahmyr Gibbs: Highest Paid Running Back in NFL History
The Lions have signed Jahmyr Gibbs to a 3-year, $67.5 million extension worth up to $75.75 million.
The Detroit Lions have signed Jahmyr Gibbs to a 3-year, $67.5 million extension worth up to $75.75 million, including $51.5 million fully guaranteed, according to reports.
The new deal makes Gibbs the highest-paid running back in NFL history, surpassing the recent extensions signed by Bijan Robinson and Jonathan Taylor. Just days ago, the league had only one running back making at least $20 million per year. Now, Gibbs joins Robinson and Taylor as the third to reach that mark this week.
The extension comes after Gibbs returned to practice Thursday following his training camp hold-in while awaiting a new contract. Earlier in the day, reports indicated optimism that a deal could be finalized this week, and the two sides wasted little time getting it done.
Since being selected 12th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft, Gibbs has developed into one of the NFL’s most dynamic offensive weapons. Through his first three seasons, he has totaled:
- 3,580 rushing yards
- 39 rushing touchdowns
- 1,449 receiving yards
- 10 receiving touchdowns
