Lions Sign “Passtronaut” Josh Dobbs

The Detroit Lions wasted little time finding their new QB2, signing veteran Josh Dobbs just hours after Teddy Bridgewater unexpectedly retired from the NFL at 33 years old.

Dobbs is signing a 1-year, $1.425M deal with $475K fully guaranteed, according to Mike Garafolo. His agent, Mike McCartney, announced the signing Sunday.

The move gives Detroit the veteran quarterback it was immediately looking for following Bridgewater’s surprise retirement.

Bridgewater’s departure had left undrafted rookie Luke Altmyer as the only other QB on the Lions roster behind starter Jared Goff. HC Dan Campbell confirmed following the retirement that Detroit planned to add another quarterback and preferred bringing in a veteran.

Detroit explored multiple options before ultimately landing on Dobbs.

According to Garafolo, the Lions also worked out former Saints QB Jake Haener and UFL MVP Jack Plummer on Sunday. Both had impressive workouts, but Detroit ultimately signed Dobbs.
