Sam Darnold Avoids Hip Fracture, Set for MRI
Seattle received some encouraging news on Sam Darnold's injury.
Seahawks QB Sam Darnold suffered a hip injury on Seattle’s opening possession during Wednesday night’s 13-10 win over the Patriots and was unable to return.
Darnold was injured while taking a sack on just the 5th play of the game. He limped off the field, was evaluated in the medical tent, and later went to the locker room before being ruled out.
The good news is Seattle has already ruled out a fracture.
“At this point, we are able to rule out a fracture,” Seahawks HC Mike Macdonald said. “So there’s some more tests to be done. … We’re still working through all that, but right now I think fracture is out, which is great news.”
Darnold was taken to Harborview Medical Center for a CT scan after leaving the game. The initial test was reportedly encouraging but inconclusive, and he is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Thursday to determine the severity.
Drew Lock took over for Darnold and helped Seattle complete the comeback win.
Lock finished 16-of-22 for 187 yards and 1 touchdown without turning the ball over. He connected with Jaxon Smith-Njigba for a 45-yard touchdown in the 4th quarter before Seattle’s defense ended the game, intercepting Drake Maye for the 3rd time.
Seattle now has some extra time before its next game, but Macdonald said it is still too early to know whether Darnold will be available for Week 2 against the Cardinals on Sept. 20.
