Seahawks Reviewing Sam Darnold MRI
Seahawks QB Sam Darnold is expected to miss time after suffering an injury during Wednesday night’s season opener.
The Seahawks appear to have avoided a worst-case scenario with quarterback Sam Darnold, but he is still expected to miss time following the injury he suffered during Wednesday night’s season opener.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Seattle is reviewing the results of an MRI Darnold underwent Thursday morning to determine the severity of the injury and how long he could be sidelined.
One source told Schefter the Seahawks “dodged a bullet” and avoided a more serious injury, although Darnold is still expected to miss some time.
Darnold suffered the injury on Seattle’s 5th offensive play of the game against the Patriots. He was sacked and left the field with a noticeable limp before being evaluated in the medical tent.
The Seahawks eventually took Darnold to the locker room before transporting him to a local hospital for additional testing. He underwent X-rays and a CT scan Wednesday night before receiving the MRI on Thursday morning.
Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald provided an encouraging update after the game, confirming Darnold did not suffer a fracture.
Drew Lock replaced Darnold and helped Seattle complete a comeback victory over New England. Lock would be in line to start while Darnold is sidelined, with second-year quarterback Jalen Milroe also on the Seahawks 53-man roster.
The exact timeline for Darnold’s return remains unclear as Seattle continues reviewing the MRI results.
