Texans Braden Smith, Ali Gaye Carted Off

The Texans suffered a pair of injuries during Wednesday’s joint practice with the Panthers.

Offensive tackle Braden Smith and defensive lineman Ali Gaye were both carted off the field after suffering knee injuries, according to Aaron Wilson.

Both players were reportedly unable to put weight on their legs.

Smith’s injury is especially concerning for a Texans offensive line that brought him in this offseason to compete for a starting role at right tackle.

The 29-year-old signed a 2-year deal worth $20 million with Houston in March. The contract reportedly includes $13.5 million fully guaranteed and can reach a maximum value of $25 million.

Smith spent the first eight seasons of his career with the Colts after being selected in the second round of the 2018 Draft. He has made 105 career starts and entered Texans camp competing with Trent Brown at right tackle.

Gaye joined Houston in May after the Texans claimed him off waivers from the Titans.

The Texans will now wait for further testing to determine the severity of both knee injuries.
