The biggest news over the last week has been centered around superstar edge rusher Micah Parsons. Parsons officially requested a trade from the Dallas Cowboys following frustrating contract negotiations, as he wants to become the highest-paid pass rusher in the league. Parsons has had one of the best starts to a career for any defender, notching at least 12 sacks in each of his first two seasons.
The four-time Pro Bowler, two-time First Team All-Pro and 2021 Defensive Rookie of the Year made it clear in an X post that he no longer wants to be in Dallas. The public dispute with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is ongoing and this situation seems more than just leverage to gain more money. It looks like Parsons may actually play for another team very soon.
Who could that team be? Garrett Podell of CBS Sports listed the top landing spots for Parsons’ services. While it would be very cool to see Parsons and fellow Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter wreak havoc together, the Cowboys would never trade with the Giants. But how about the Jets?
“The Jets just locked down two key pieces of their core this offseason by re-signing wide receiver Garrett Wilson and cornerback Sauce Gardner. Adding another young, elite talent in Parsons could be exactly what the Jets need to get their mojo back in Year 1 under new head coach Aaron Glenn. They have just the right amount of cap space to get the deal done, and reinforcing their defense to support a talented but inconsistent quarterback in Justin Fields would be reminiscent of the mold from the peak Rex Ryan years in 2009 and 2010.”
Think about a defensive line that includes Quinnen Williams, Will McDonald IV and Micah Parsons. The Giants have been drawing attention with their defensive line, but this move would create two dominant fronts in the Big Apple.
