49ers Lose Jake Tonges for Season, De’Zhaun Stribling to Miss Around 10 Weeks

The 49ers received tough injury news on Wednesday, with TE Jake Tonges officially done for the season and rookie WR De’Zhaun Stribling expected to miss around 10 weeks.

HC Kyle Shanahan announced that Tonges suffered an MCL tear that required surgery, ending his 2026 season.

Tonges suffered the knee injury against the Rams after playing just 8 offensive snaps.

The injury leaves the 49ers with George Kittle and Luke Farrell as the only tight ends currently on the 53-man roster. San Francisco signed veteran TE Jack Stoll to the practice squad following Tonges’ move to IR.

The 49ers also placed Stribling on IR after the rookie suffered an ankle injury against the Rams.

Shanahan said Stribling underwent ankle surgery on Wednesday and is expected to miss around 10 weeks. The team is hopeful he will be able to return later this season.

With Stribling sidelined, San Francisco promoted veteran WR KhaDarel Hodge from the practice squad to the 53-man roster.
