Eagles QB Jalen Hurts Likely To Miss Rest of 2026 Season After Blood Clots Discovered in Lungs

Eagles QB Jalen Hurts is expected to miss the remainder of the 2026 NFL season after further medical testing revealed multiple blood clots in his lungs, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Hurts is expected to undergo approximately three months of treatment, making a return this season unlikely. Hurts’ agent, Nicole Lynn, has provided a positive outlook on his long-term health, with doctors expecting him to make a full recovery.

The 28-year-old quarterback was placed on injured reserve Saturday after initially being diagnosed with a blood clot in his left calf.

Hurts’ situation dates back to Philadelphia’s Week 4 matchup against the Rams. During that game, Hurts was cleated in his calf but continued playing. He later reported discomfort to the Eagles medical staff four days after the injury occurred.

Hurts participated fully in practice that week before traveling with the team to London for its Week 5 matchup against the Jaguars.

Following the team’s arrival in London, doctors performed an ultrasound that revealed a superficial blood clot in his left calf.

Despite the diagnosis, medical personnel determined Hurts could safely play against Jacksonville, emphasizing the importance of staying active and mobile.

However, doctors also instructed Hurts not to sleep as a precaution after his initial diagnosis in London. As a result, he remained awake for roughly 36 hours before starting against the Jaguars, according to Tom Pelissero.

Hurts went on to play despite the lack of sleep and his blood clot diagnosis, throwing for 220 yards and one touchdown.

On Monday, the Eagles and Hurts’ agent released a joint statement confirming that further evaluations identified deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli, meaning blood clots were discovered in both lungs.

The statement explained that Hurts is currently stable and is expected to recover without lasting complications.

“Jalen’s prognosis is very good, and we expect a full recovery.”

While receiving treatment, Hurts will not be permitted to participate in contact activities, including football.

With Hurts sidelined, Tanner McKee is expected to handle Philadelphia’s starting QB duties.

McKee started Sunday’s matchup against the Panthers, but the Eagles struggled offensively in a 25-14 loss.
