Titans snap losing skid, come back over Colts
Tennessee got their first win of the 2026 season in Indianapolis by 6 points.
The Indianapolis Colts entered the week’s second AFC South matchup at 2-3, hoping to bounce back from last week’s loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, while the Tennessee Titans arrived winless through 5 weeks after another disappointing defeat to the Houston Texans. The storylines continued to circle around Cam Ward’s struggles and Indianapolis running back Jonathan Taylor’s efforts to rediscover his explosive form and keep his side competitive. With the Colts having won 6consecutive meetings between the sides, the Titans faced a major challenge if they were to reverse their fortunes and finally get their season moving in the right direction.
Indianapolis made the stronger start, with Daniel Jones leading an efficient opening scoring drive. The quarterback connected with Taylor for a 38-yard reception to put the Colts in a promising position before finding tight end Mo Alie-Cox for a 1-yard touchdown.
The Colts continued to control proceedings in the second quarter, with Spencer Shrader converting field goals from 23 and 47 yards to extend the advantage to 13-0. Tennessee’s offense struggled to find consistency, while an interception from Ward further complicated the visitors’ troubles.
Indianapolis appeared comfortable heading into the break, with its defence keeping the Titans scoreless and the offense doing enough to build a commanding advantage as expected by most. For Tennessee, they simply had no choice but to leave behind their conservative offensive approach and take the game on if they were to come from behind.

The visitors finally found some momentum in the third quarter. Joey Slye opened Tennessee’s scoring with a 29-yard field goal, providing a small reward for a drive that moved the Titans into Colts territory.
Slye added another 3 points later in the quarter, this time converting an longer 56-yard attempt to reduce the deficit to a converted touchdown. Although Indianapolis remained in front, Tennessee was beginning to build pressure, and the Colts were finding it increasingly difficult to put the game away.
The Titans’ defense also played a crucial role, intercepting Jones in the third quarter through cornerback Cor’Dale Flott. The turnover prevented Indianapolis from extending its lead and gave Ward and the offense another opportunity to make the contest interesting.
The fourth quarter completely transformed the game. Ward connected with rookie wide receiver Chimere Dike for an 8-yard touchdown, tying the score at 13-13 after Slye’s extra point.
Tennessee then delivered the decisive special-teams moment. After the Colts were forced to punt, running back Julius Chestnut broke through to block Rigoberto Sanchez’s kick. Defensive lineman Olaseni Oladejo recovered the loose ball and returned it for a touchdown, putting the Titans ahead 20-13 with just over 10 minutes remaining.

Indianapolis refused to surrender, however, and mounted a response of its own. Jones moved the Colts downfield with a series of completions, including a 23-yard connection with Josh Downs. Taylor then took over near the goal line, powering in from 4 yards out to level the contest, leaving everyone’s eyes on Ward to see if the second year talent could produce the game-winning drive.
He and the Titans held their nerve in the closing stages, capitalising on their opportunities to add crucial points through a pair of field goals and move ahead 26-20. Their fourth-quarter resurgence proved enough to secure a victory that had looked highly unlikely when they trailed by 13 at halftime and destined for an 0-6 start to the season.
The victory provides a much-needed breakthrough after 5 consecutive defeats. Ward and the offense will take massive confidence from their late resurgence, while the special-teams touchdown demonstrated that this team is still playing with plenty of heart despite a lack of overall talent. For Indianapolis, this is a huge missed opportunity to improve its record and strengthen its position in the AFC South, especially as the Jacksonville Jaguars had lost earlier in the day. The Colts will need to address their fourth-quarter execution, as the burden seems to always be placed on Taylor and nobody else.
