49ers LB Dre Greenlaw Suspended One Game After Headbutt
San Francisco will be without Dre Greenlaw in Week 6 against the Commanders.
The NFL has suspended 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw for one game without pay following an incident involving Seahawks linebacker Ernest Jones IV during Sunday’s matchup.
Greenlaw was ejected during the second quarter after using his helmet to headbutt Jones, who was not wearing a helmet at the time. Jones appeared to be bleeding following the incident.
On Monday, the NFL announced that Greenlaw’s actions violated Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1 of the league’s rulebook, which prohibits “any act which is contrary to the generally understood principles of sportsmanship.”
The suspension will keep Greenlaw out of San Francisco’s upcoming Week 6 matchup against the Commanders on Monday, October 19. It will also cost him a game check worth ~ $176,000 and a possible fine on top of that.
According to the NFL, Greenlaw will be eligible to return to the roster on Tuesday, October 20. However, Greenlaw can appeal the suspension. No confirmation yet on whether he will.
Unless the suspension is overturned, the 49ers will face the Commanders without Greenlaw.
