Young helps Panthers roll to victory against Eagles
Carolina continued their winning ways over a hampered Philadelphia side.
The Philadelphia Eagles hosted the Carolina Panthers at Lincoln Financial Field, desperate to halt a 3-game losing streak. With both teams dealing with significant injury concerns, the matchup presented an opportunity for Carolina to make a statement on the road and for Philadelphia’s depth to step up under pressure.
The Eagles entered the contest without starting quarterback Jalen Hurts, leaving Tanner McKee to make his first start of the season. Philadelphia’s offense had struggled in recent weeks, and the absence of key contributors placed even greater responsibility on McKee and the supporting cast. Carolina, meanwhile, arrived hoping to take advantage of the depleted Eagles and turn a promising start to the season into a winning record.
The Panthers struck first, with Ryan Fitzgerald converting a 47-yard field goal after Carolina’s opening possession moved into Philadelphia territory. Both defenses controlled much of the opening quarter, forcing punts and limiting opportunities for either offense to find rhythm. The Eagles struggled to sustain drives early, while Carolina’s promising possessions were repeatedly disrupted by penalties and Philadelphia’s pass rush.
Carolina finally broke through in the second quarter. Bryce Young connected with Tommy Tremble for a 12-yard touchdown, extending the Panthers’ lead to 10-0 after a drive helped along by a roughing-the-passer penalty against Philadelphia. The Eagles responded with their best possession of the half, as McKee moved the offense downfield before running back Dameon Pierce powered into the end zone from two yards out. Jake Elliott’s extra point cut the deficit to three, and the Panthers carried a narrow 10-7 advantage into halftime.

The third quarter remained a defensive battle, but Carolina managed to extend its lead through another long-range kick. Fitzgerald converted from 52 yards to make it 13-7, while Philadelphia continued to struggle to generate consistent offense. The Panthers’ defense applied pressure on McKee, and Devin Lloyd recorded a sack as the Eagles were repeatedly forced to punt. Young and the Carolina offense gradually began to find more room, with Jalen Coker producing a significant reception to help set up the visitors deep in Philadelphia territory.
Carolina capitalised early in the fourth quarter when Chuba Hubbard powered into the end zone from a yard out. The Panthers attempted a 2-point conversion but failed, leaving the score at 19-7. Philadelphia refused to go away, however, as McKee delivered a 19-yard touchdown pass to DeVonta Smith, who made an impressive catch in the end zone to bring the Eagles within 5.
The momentum appeared to be shifting when Philadelphia forced Carolina to punt, but the Panthers’ special teams delivered a decisive response. Anthony Tyus broke through to block Braden Mann’s punt, giving Carolina excellent field position to seal the game. Young made the Eagles pay almost immediately, finding Tremble wide open for his second touchdown of the afternoon. Fitzgerald missed the extra point after a taunting penalty pushed the attempt back, but Carolina had restored an 11-point cushion at 25-14.

Philadelphia had one final opportunity to mount a comeback, but McKee’s fourth-down pass intended for Smith fell incomplete, ending a promising drive. Carolina then leaned on Hubbard and the running game to control possession, while David Moore broke free for a 27-yard gain to help the Panthers run down the clock and secure the victory.
The 25-14 result lifts Carolina to 3-2, giving the Panthers their first winning record since opening the 2021 season at 3-0. Young finished with 281 passing yards and two touchdown passes, while Hubbard supplied 120 rushing yards on 28 carries. For Philadelphia, the defeat marks a fourth consecutive loss and drops the Eagles to 2-4, increasing the pressure on an offense that managed just 35 rushing yards. Carolina will look to carry its momentum into a divisional clash with Tampa Bay, while Philadelphia must regroup ahead of a crucial meeting with the Dallas Cowboys if they are to somehow resurrect their 2026 campaign.
