Bills win another thriller, narrowly take down Raiders

The Buffalo Bills travelled to Las Vegas looking to build on a thrilling back-and-forth win over the Los Angeles Rams, while the Raiders hoped home field could help them secure a statement win against one of the conference’s leading contenders, having enjoyed a surprisingly positive start to 2026.

With both teams sitting above .500 and needing consistency as the season progressed, the matchup at Allegiant Stadium promised an intriguing contest between Josh Allen’s explosive offense and a Raiders team capable of making life difficult for opposing defences, particularly since the return of Brock Bowers.

The Bills began efficiently, opening proceedings with a 44-yard field goal from Tyler Bass. However, sandwiched in between, Las Vegas produced a productive drive of their own. Kirk Cousins connected with Tre Tucker for a 26-yard gain on 3rd down, and Ashton Jeanty finished the march with a 1-yard touchdown run to put the Raiders up in the early stages.

Buffalo continued to move the ball, with James Cook III providing a spark on the ground and through the air. After Bass converted a 28-yard field goal, Allen found Khalil Shakir on a 9-yard screen pass for the Bills’ first touchdown of the game. Shakir followed his blockers through the Raiders’ defense to put Buffalo ahead 13-7.

Las Vegas answered with two field goals from Matt Gay, including a 27-yarder as the first half expired, to level the contest at 13-13. The closing moments before halftime were particularly eventful. Bills safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson was ejected following an unsportsmanlike conduct incident involving Bowers. The penalty helped Las Vegas advance into scoring range, allowing Gay to restore parity on the scoreboard before the break.

Buffalo emerged from halftime with renewed defensive intensity. After forcing a quick 3-and-out, the Bills intercepted Cousins through linebacker Dorian Williams, who read the quarterback’s throw and secured his first career interception. Buffalo had initially settled for a field goal on their prior possession, but Allen soon produced the game’s defining highlight.

Facing pressure on 3rd down, Allen evaded several defenders before delivering an unconventional shovel pass to Keon Coleman for a 12-yard score. The remarkable play extended Buffalo’s advantage to 23-13 and also saw Allen tie Jim Kelly’s franchise record for career touchdown passes, with 258 across the regular season and playoffs.

The Raiders refused to fold. Early in the fourth quarter, they drove deep into Buffalo territory but were unable to convert a goal-to-go opportunity, settling for Gay’s 23-yard field goal. After forcing a punt, Las Vegas put together another impressive possession, with Cousins connecting with Bowers for a significant gain before finding Tucker for an 11-yard touchdown. The score levelled the game with just over 8 minutes to play.

Buffalo responded immediately, as they always seem to in high-scoring affairs. Cook III took charge of the next drive, contributing 46 of the Bills’ 66 yards before powering into the end zone from 3 yards out. The go-ahead touchdown restored Buffalo’s lead at 30-23 with 4:43 remaining.

After their defense forced a trio of consecutive incompletions from Cousins, the Bills marched into field-goal range, and Bass converted from 38 yards to establish a seemingly comfortable 33-23 advantage inside the 2-minute warning.

Cousins, however, had one final response. On the Raiders’ next possession, he launched a 44-yard touchdown pass to Tucker, who made a spectacular diving catch to bring Las Vegas back within 3 points. The Raiders attempted an onside kick to regain possession, but Buffalo recovered and ran out the remaining time to secure the win.

Allen finished with 255 passing yards and 2 touchdowns, while Cook III contributed 95 rushing yards and the decisive score. Cousins threw for 313 yards and 2 touchdowns, with Tucker recording 97 receiving yards and both scores through the air.

The victory lifted Buffalo to 5-1, giving the Bills valuable momentum heading into their bye week before hosting the Baltimore Ravens . Las Vegas fell to 3-3 after its third consecutive defeat. Despite the loss, the Raiders demonstrated their ability to challenge a strong opponent, but their inability to make enough defensive stops at crucial moments proved costly.
