Commanders QB Jayden Daniels Ruled Out for Week 4

Commanders QB Jayden Daniels will have to wait at least one more week to return from a dislocated left elbow.

HC Dan Quinn officially ruled Daniels out for Sunday’s matchup against the Colts in London, meaning veteran QB Marcus Mariota will make his second consecutive start.

Daniels returned to practice this week and participated on a limited basis while wearing a brace on his left elbow. Despite making progress throughout the week, Washington is not ready to put him back on the field, which is a good thing for his long-term health.

“Jayden had a great week,” Quinn told reporters Friday. “It was awesome to have him back on the field in a limited fashion. He’ll be out Sunday. Marcus will start. That’s a huge positive step for us and for him.”

Daniels suffered the injury during Washington’s Week 2 loss to the Cowboys when someone stepped on his left foot as he moved away from center. He stumbled backward and landed on his left arm, dislocating the elbow.

It marked the second time in less than a year that Daniels dislocated the same elbow. He first suffered the injury in Week 9 of the 2025 season and missed four games before aggravating it again upon his return.

Daniels worked through individual drills this week and said Thursday that he had no issues taking snaps or handing the ball off while wearing the brace.

Washington will now give Daniels another week to recover, with the team hoping he can return to full practice next week before determining his availability for Week 5 against the Giants.

In his absence, Mariota will remain QB1 after helping Washington defeat Seattle 33-31 in Week 3. He completed 19 of 31 passes for 183 yards and 3 TDs in the win.
