49ers Owner Jed York Suspended 6 Games, Fined $500K
The NFL has completed its review of Jed York’s August arrest, with the 49ers owner accepting the punishment.
San Francisco 49ers owner and CEO Jed York has been disciplined by the NFL following his August arrest in Ohio.
The NFL has suspended York for 6 regular-season games and fined him $500,000 for violating the league’s Personal Conduct Policy, according to Adam Schefter.
York released a statement accepting the NFL’s decision and apologizing to his family, the 49ers organization, and fans.
“Today, the NFL concluded its review, and I accept its decision in full.
To my family, to the players, coaches, and employees of the San Francisco 49ers, to our fans and partners, I am deeply sorry.
This was an inexcusable mistake and I take full responsibility. What I did does not reflect my values or the man I strive to be for my family.
While I fell short of the model I want to set for my sons, I now hope to show them the importance of owning up to one’s failures, and that even our worst moments teach us to be better.
Leading the 49ers is a privilege, and one I don’t take lightly. Your trust will have to be earned back over time, and I look forward to that work ahead.”
The NFL’s punishment stems from York’s August arrest in East Palestine, Ohio, after being charged with engaging in prostitution and possessing criminal tools. He later pleaded no contest to two misdemeanor charges after the prostitution charge was reduced to disorderly conduct.
He was sentenced to two days in jail, with credit for one day already served, and ordered to pay $1,150 in fines.
The San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that York was one of only two people in 100 similar cases since the beginning of 2026 to have a prostitution charge reduced to disorderly conduct.
