Deion Sanders Denies Mandating Team Attendance at Lil Wayne Concert

Deion Sanders faced controversy after reports surfaced claiming he required the entire Colorado football team to attend a Lil Wayne concert during Prime Weekend.

According to Athlon Sports’ Steve Corder, a source revealed that this demand was a tipping point for several Buffaloes players who opted to enter the transfer portal between May 1 and May 15.

“The Wayne concert was the final straw for a few players who hit the transfer portal,” the source told Corder. “When Coach Prime insisted that everyone attend to support Shedeur’s performance as a rapper, it caused significant discontent. It became a major distraction and led to accusations of favoritism.”

While the mandatory concert stirred controversy among players, deeper issues including locker room dynamics related to initiations and gambling also reportedly troubled the team.

Responding to the allegations, Sanders denied any mandate in a rebuttal to Corder’s original report for Athlon Sports. The concert, which took place at the University of Colorado Boulder following the Buffaloes’ spring game in April, allegedly prompted Sanders to threaten dismissal for players who did not attend, as reported by Corder.

Sanders dismissed the accusations as untrue, labeling them “one of the best lies I’ve heard” in a social media post on Friday.

Since Sanders assumed coaching duties, Colorado football has experienced significant player turnover, with 41 transfers recorded so far, according to 247Sports. The team finished with a 4-8 record following extensive roster changes ahead of Sanders’ inaugural season as head coach.
