Shedeur Sanders ‘Unlikely’ to Make Second Preseason Start Due to Injury

The Cleveland Browns have perhaps the most interesting quarterback room in the NFL currently, maybe of all time. With veterans Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Tyler Huntley and *technically* Deshaun Watson in the room, the Browns also drafted both Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders back in April. The more the merrier seems to be the mantra in Cleveland.

Last week, it worked out in their favor. With injuries to both Pickett and Gabriel, Sanders got the nod to start the Browns’ first preseason game of the year against the Carolina Panthers. Under the bright lights, Sanders delivered in a big way. He threw for 138 yards and two touchdowns in the Browns’ dominating 30-10 win over the Panthers. Sanders’ ‘Perfect Timing’ celebration was a big hit with the crowd, even with Panthers fans.

The Browns will now take on the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles. This would’ve been a solid test for Sanders to progress even further, but an oblique injury will likely keep him from playing according to Nick Shook of NFL.com.

The Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback strained his oblique during Wednesday’s practice and is unlikely to play in Saturday’s preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles, the team announced. Sanders will not practice on Thursday and is considered day to day.

With Sanders now likely sidelined, the Browns’ only healthy quarterback options will be Flacco and Huntley. As for Sanders, this could’ve been the worst possible timing for an injury, as this would’ve been a perfect opportunity to stand out even more in Cleveland’s quarterback room.
