Texans Fear Graham Mertz Suffered Torn ACL
Houston is potentially in need of another backup quarterback.
The Texans are awaiting additional testing on quarterback Graham Mertz but currently believe he tore his ACL during Thursday night’s preseason opener against the Chargers.
Mertz went down with a non-contact knee injury while running toward the sideline. Head coach DeMeco Ryans said postgame that they were concerned about a potential ACL injury.
Adam Schefter reported Friday morning that Houston now believes Mertz did tear his ACL, although further testing is expected to confirm.
Mertz completed 4 of 7 passes for 23 yards before leaving the game. He also added 15 rushing yards on 3 carries.
The Texans only backup outside of Mertz is currently Mills, so expect Houston to pivot towards signing another backup within the next couple of days.
