Packers protect home field in rout of Bears
Green Bay blew Chicago out of the water to claim victory in the NFC North rivalry.
The Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers renewed their historic NFC North rivalry on Sunday, with both sides entering the contest looking to strengthen their position in a competitive division. Chicago had made an encouraging start to the 2026 season, winning 3 of its opening 4 games, while Green Bay arrived at Lambeau Field with a 2-2 record after, frankly, a poor opening month. With the Bears hoping to keep on rolling and the Packers looking to make a statement in front of their home supporters, the stage was set for another important meeting between two of the NFL’s oldest rivals.
The Packers’ statement began right from the outset in the opening quarter, forcing Chicago off the field quickly before putting together a length-of-the-field drive that culminated in a 42-yard touchdown pass from Jordan Love to Christian Watson. A play-action pass caught the Bears’ defense out of position, allowing Watson to break free down the sideline and stroll into the end zone.
Chicago struggled to respond, with backup quarterback Tyson Bagent finding life difficult against an aggressive Packers defence. His problems intensified instantly when a pass intended for Luther Burden III was deflected by safety Javon Bullard and intercepted by Xavier McKinney, handing Green Bay possession in favourable territory.
The Packers made the most of the turnover, with Love guiding another productive drive before Marshawn Lloyd finished the possession with a bulldozing 7-yard rushing touchdown early in the second quarter, running straight over the top of defenders en route to the end zone. Green Bay extended its lead to 14-0, leaving Chicago facing an uphill battle against a defense that had offered little opportunity to recover.

The Bears finally found some momentum before halftime. Bagent helped move the offense into scoring range, with D’Andre Swift eventually powering into the end zone from a yard out. The touchdown reduced the deficit to 14-7 and briefly gave Chicago hope of mounting a comeback, although Green Bay maintained its advantage heading into the break.
Any hopes of a Bears resurgence were quickly extinguished after halftime, as Love continued to punish Chicago’s secondary with a series of explosive passes. The Packers extended their lead through a long touchdown connection with none other than Watson. On 3rd and 22, no less, Love delivered one of the defining plays of the afternoon, launching a deep pass that Watson hauled in for a spectacular 53-yard touchdown.
Green Bay continued to find openings downfield with its aerial assault throughout the third quarter, with tight end Tucker Kraft producing a 46-yard reception and sophomore receiver Matthew Golden adding a 36-yard gain.
The Packers added further gloss to the scoreline in the fourth quarter when Love connected with Golden for a 50-yard gain, setting up another scoring opportunity. Green Bay continued to exploit the Bears’ defensive weaknesses, with Lloyd eventually finding the end zone for the second time on the day to complete the scoring at 31-7, as the scoreline ended up flattering the Bears due to a pair of missed field goals by the home side.
Chicago attempted to find a response late in the contest, but further mistakes prevented the visitors from mounting any meaningful comeback. Bagent was eventually replaced by Case Keenum after throwing multiple interceptions, but the quarterback change failed to spark any late revival.

For Green Bay, the result and by far their best performance of the season to date offer a significant boost after an uneven start to the season and provides renewed confidence heading further into the NFC North schedule. For the Bears, however, the defeat represents a disappointing setback after three consecutive victories, with their defensive struggles and quarterback uncertainty leaving plenty to address ahead of their next outing.
