Patriots obliterate Raiders thanks to Maye’s masterclass
Drake Maye had a phenomenal outing in leading New England to a win over Las Vegas.
The Las Vegas Raiders and New England Patriots entered Sunday’s clash at Gillette Stadium with similar records but contrasting feelings among their fanbases in regard to their starts to the season. The Raiders looked to bounce back from their first defeat of the season while New England aimed to build momentum after an inconsistent opening month. Las Vegas had started the campaign with 3 wins from 4 games, establishing itself as one of the league’s more productive offenses behind Kirk Cousins, while the Patriots arrived at 2-2 hoping to make a statement in front of their home supporters.
The Patriots got onto the front foot in the opening quarter, with Drake Maye finding DeMario Douglas for a 35-yard touchdown to cap off an impressive opening drive. The Raiders responded through tight end Brock Bowers, who hauled in a 13-yard pass from Kirk Cousins to level the contest. However, the parity was short-lived, as New England quickly regained the lead when Rhamondre Stevenson powered into the end zone from 5 yards out. The game had quickly established itself as a shootout.
The Patriots continued to find success offensively, with Maye spreading the ball around and exploiting gaps in the Raiders’ secondary. Las Vegas struggled to generate the same consistency, despite Bowers providing a reliable target for Cousins. New England extended its advantage in the second quarter when Maye found his reliable tight end Hunter Henry for a touchdown, sending the Patriots into halftime with a commanding 21-7 lead.

Any hopes of a Raiders comeback only continued to diminish immediately after the break. Maye continued his outstanding afternoon by this time finding Kyle Williams for a 34-yard touchdown, stretching the advantage to 3 touchdowns and underlining New England’s dominance through the air.
Las Vegas managed to respond with some points of their own via a 46-yard field goal from Matt Gay, but the Patriots had an answer once again. Their offensive spread continued. Maye added a rushing touchdown from 3 yards out, extending the lead to 35-10 as the third quarter closed. New England’s offense continued to operate with tremendous efficiency, leaving the Raiders with no hope of finding a way back into the contest.
The Patriots added a 28-yard field goal from Andy Borregales early in the fourth quarter, before Las Vegas finally found the end zone again. Dylan Laube rushed in from 2 yards out to reduce the deficit, but the touchdown came too late to change the outcome.
New England responded by putting the finishing touch on its performance. Maye connected with Douglas for another touchdown as New England put up a whopping 45 points thanks to 6 touchdowns in front of their home fans on the afternoon, underlining completing a comprehensive victory.

The final whistle confirmed New England’s most convincing performance of the season. Maye finished with 374 passing yards and 4 touchdown passes, adding a rushing score for good measure, while Douglas recorded two touchdowns. For the Raiders, Bowers impressed with 8 receptions for 110 yards, but the visitors were simply unable to keep pace with New England’s relentless offense.
The victory moves the Patriots to 3-2 and provides a major confidence boost as they look to build consistency over the coming weeks. For Las Vegas, the defeat is a disappointing response after their first loss of the season, with defensive struggles leaving plenty to address before their next outing. Questions will loom as to whether the first 3 weeks were nothing more than a honeymoon for Klint Kubiak and his men.
