Texans get on the board with domination of Titans
Houston had their way with Tennessee on Sunday afternoon.
Both the Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans entered Sunday’s AFC South clash desperately searching for a first win of the 2026 NFL season, with both sides having endured a difficult opening four weeks. Houston had struggled to find consistency on both sides of the ball, while Tennessee’s inability to sustain offensive drives had become a real concern as fans would have liked to see more immediate growth from Cam Ward. With neither team able to afford another defeat, the meeting at Nissan Stadium presented an important opportunity to get their campaigns back on track.
Tennessee made the brighter start, opening the scoring with a 30-yard field goal from Joey Slye after putting together a promising opening drive. Houston responded with a 45-yarder from Ka’imi Fairbairn, levelling the contest at 3-3 as the Texans began to find their rhythm.
The visitors took control in the second quarter, with Fairbairn proving particularly influential. The kicker a hattrick of second term kicks, giving Houston a 12-3 advantage heading into the break. Despite moving the ball effectively at times, the Texans continued to struggle to turn their red zone looks into touchdowns, leaving the door slightly open for Tennessee.
However, the Titans were unable to take advantage. Quarterback Cam Ward struggled to generate momentum against an increasingly aggressive Houston defense, while turnovers proved costly. An interception and a fumble by running back Tyjae Spears handed the Texans valuable opportunities, with Tennessee managing little in response as the visitors tightened their grip on the contest.
Houston continued to dominate after halftime, finally finding the end zone in the third quarter. A lengthy, 17-play possession was capped by CJ Stroud, who powered into the end zone from 2 yards out to extend the Texans’ lead to 19-3. After relying on Fairbairn’s boot for much of the first half, the touchdown provided a welcome breakthrough for the Houston offense.

Ward and Tennessee’s offense showed no signs of a response, completely caving in to any pressure put on by the vicious Texans defense all afternoon, more of the same to what the past few years have looked like in Nashville.
The Texans then put the contest beyond doubt in the final quarter. Stroud connected with Jaylin Noel for a nine-yard touchdown, completing a scoring drive that stretched the advantage to 26-3. Tennessee struggled to mount a response, with Houston’s defence continuing to restrict the home side’s progress and prevent any late comeback.
With the clock winding down, Houston remained firmly in control, closing out a comprehensive victory that finally put its first win of the season on the board. For Stroud and the Texans, the victory provides a much-needed confidence boost after a luckless opening month. Stroud’s composed performance, combined with a defense that forced crucial turnovers, offered encouraging signs that Houston have the best chance of any of the 0-4 teams to turn their season around.
The defeat leaves plenty of questions to answer for the Titans, and noise will only intensify further with more losses in the future. Ward and the offense struggled to produce consistent yardage, and they were unable to respond once Houston established control. With the Texans finally on the board in the win column, the pressure now shifts to Tennessee to find answers before its season slips further away into another 1-or-2-win season.
